The client

The Pediatric Medical Group (PMG) supports more than 80% of pediatricians who work at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and many doctors who work at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Its main purpose is to collect the invoicing data of participating doctors and annually submit over 410 000 claims for professional services to the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) and other paymasters located outside the province of Quebec.

The challenge

In order to optimize the efficiency of the process used to handle this important volume of claims, PMG needs a real-time billing and payroll system for participating doctors and PMG’s team of professionals. The software application must respect all business rules established by the RAMQ and other paymasters and must be easy to use in order to involve the doctors in the automation of the billing process. Furthermore, in order to protect confidential and sensitive information, the system must be highly secure.

The solution

Pyxis /studio presented to PMG an integrated application that automates the management of billable medical procedures, the verification and submission of requests for payment as well as the generation of pay. In fact, the doctors can securely enter data and view all information related to their pay.

“PMG did an extensive vendor screening process and Pyxis was far and away our top choice. Pyxis consistently displays a commitment to quality, professionalism, and addressing the end-user needs while helping us improve on our vision for this mission-critical system. So far, working with them has exceeded our expectations. That the /studio process is fun has been unexpected and a very appreciated added benefit. I can’t recommend them enough.” —Josh Cowan, Consultant and Business Analyst to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatrics’ Medical Informatics Unit and to PMG.

A significant benefit of the solution developed by Pyxis /studio is to provide PMG with all data required to easily and transparently manage the pay of participating doctors. The solution significantly reduces manual operations that used to be performed by doctors and PMG. Pyxis /studio’s team focused on the user experience. Regular meetings with different stakeholders allowed to create intuitive browsing and functions that meet the actual and essential needs of the users, that is over 200 doctors and PMG’s team of professionals.

“The team at Pyxis is professional, diligent, insightful and friendly; a true pleasure to work with. They have developed for us a system that will greatly streamline our business processes, decreasing our costs and improving partner satisfaction,” —Mitchell Shiller, MDCM, Associate Chair (Finance and Informatics) at the Department of Pediatrics of the Montreal Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor (Pediatrics) at McGill University.

By bundling with /consulting and /campus, Pyxis /studio provided the optimum beginning-to-end Agile experience throughout the software development project.
